Driving Instructor / Safety Training Specialist
Little Rock, AR | Full-Time or Part-Time | $18.00–$25.00/hr (based on qualifications and experience)
Join a Company That’s Been Improving Driver Safety Since 1953
For more than 70 years, Thompson Driving has helped improve driver performance through classroom driver education, defensive driving, court-ordered driver education, corporate fleet training, and driver evaluations. We’ve helped educate more than 100,000 drivers across Arkansas — and we’re not done yet.
We’re looking for confident, engaging communicators to join our team. If you’ve ever taught a class, led a training session, presented to a room, or built relationships with customers, this role will feel familiar — just with a more meaningful mission behind it.
This is primarily a classroom and group-instruction role. You’ll spend most of your time teaching court-ordered driver education classes, leading defensive driving courses, and delivering fleet safety training to businesses. Behind-the-wheel coaching is a small part of the job, used only as a last resort — this is not a “sit in the passenger seat with a teenager all day” position.
No Instructor Experience Required
We provide paid instructor training (approximately 72 hours) covering:
- Classroom instructional techniques
- Behind-the-wheel instructional methods (for the occasions it’s needed)
- State instructor certification requirements
- Thompson Driving’s teaching standards and coaching methods
If you’ve got the communication skills, we’ll teach you the rest.
What You’ll Do
- Lead classroom instruction for court-ordered driver education programs
- Deliver defensive driving and risk management courses to individuals and groups
- Conduct corporate fleet safety training for business clients
- Assist with driver evaluations and performance assessments, communicating feedback clearly and constructively
- Represent Thompson Driving when speaking with prospective clients, businesses, courts, and government agencies — answering questions and helping identify the right training program for their needs
- Support scheduling, student records, and day-to-day program coordination
- Occasionally provide behind-the-wheel instruction when needed
One day you might be leading a court-referred defensive driving class. The next, you’re training a fleet of delivery drivers on risk reduction. No two weeks look exactly the same.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re especially interested in candidates with a background in:
- Teaching or classroom instruction
- Public speaking or presenting
- Sales or client-facing roles
- Corporate training or coaching
- Law enforcement, military, or emergency services
- Customer service or account management
More than any specific résumé line, we’re looking for people who are comfortable in front of a room, confident explaining and persuading, patient with people at every skill level, and professional in how they represent a company with a 70-year reputation.
A valid driver’s license and clean driving record are required.
